If you are out and about in the evening, you’ll notice that the trees around the library are lit this holiday season. Thank you, Windy City Construction, Joe and Teri McDaniel and Brandon Krein, for making this possible. We also extend our thanks to the Niobrara County Library Foundation for providing the funds for the outdoor decorations and lights as well as hanging them and Marilyn Allbright for loaning her trees on display by the entrance door.

“The Dog Who Saved Christmas” is on tap for Friday, December 13 at 1:15 p.m. The Bannister family's new addition, Zeus the yellow Labrador, appears to be less than the dependable guard dog the family needs. However, when two burglars set out to break into the Bannister's home while they're away for Christmas, Zeus seizes the chance to be a hero, proving every dog - even this one - has his day. The library provides the popcorn; please bring your own drink. The film is 89 minutes.

The library now has Wi-Fi mobile hotspots for circulation. The devices checkout for 7 days and renewals may be made if there are no holds. A Niobrara County Library card in good standing is required for checking out the devices, for more information call, 307-334-3490 or stop by the library.

P.T. Deutermann’s latest novel is “The Nugget.” After cheating death and losing friends at Pearl Harbor, Lieutenant Bobby Steele, USN, flies sea battle after battle. He survives the most dangerous air combat in World War II and proves his mettle as a dive-bomber pilot, but when his ship is sunk in water off a remote island occupied by Japan, he must survive by means that he can’t imagine - only to face an even greater threat ashore.

Other new books are “Bloody Genius” by John Sandford, “Hart’s Hollow Farm” by Janet Dailey, “A Wedding in December” by Sarah Morgan, “Bomber’s Moon” by Archer Mayor, “Child’s Play” by Daniel Steel, “Sins of the Fathers” by J.A. Jance, “Stealth” by Stuart Woods, “Owl Be Home For Christmas” by Donna Andrews and “Quantum” by Patricia Cornwell. A new YA addition is “Scars Like Wings” by Erin Stewart.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior titles, “The First Christmas Sweater (and the Sheep Who Changed Everything)” by Ryan Tubridy, “Remarkables” by Margaret Peterson Haddix and “She’s the Liar” by Alison Cherry. Some of the newer easy books are “The Crayons’ Christmas” by Drew Daywalt, “Long Ago, On a Silent Night” by Julie Berry, “Dasher” by Matt Tavares and “Sammy Claws, the Christmas Cat” by Lucy Rowland.
