The library will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29, 2019 for Thanksgiving. Regular hours resume on Monday, December 2. We would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and thank you for your support throughout the year.

“Sullivan’s Travels” completes the “Lighter Side” Dinner & Movie series on Monday, November 25. Sullivan is a successful and naive director of fluff films, with a heart-of-gold who decides he wants to make a film about the troubles of the downtrodden poor. Much to the chagrin of his producers, he sets off in tramp's clothing with a single dime in his pocket to experience poverty first-hand—and gets some reality shock. The film stars Joel McCrae and Veronica Lake. Deane Tucker facilitates this series and a light meal will be available.

The Friends of the Library will host their annual Christmas Cookie & Candy fundraiser on Wednesday, December 4 beginning at 3 p.m. at the library. The sale will also include homemade soups and bread! Buy by the pound or by the pre-made plate!

A new novel is “The Glovemaker” by Ann Weisgarber. In 1888 in Mormon country in Utah, Sister Deborah awaits her husband’s long anticipated return home, but a stranger arrives at her doorstep. Although this man is a fellow Latter Day Saint, he wouldn’t have shown up in January if he wasn’t on the run from something terrible. Lawmen also wouldn’t think twice about burning her house to the ground if they thought she’d helped their fugitive. So Deborah must make a decision – one that will change her life forever.

Other new fiction books are “The Timepiece” by Beverly Lewis, “Man of War” by Sean Parnell, “The Empty Nesters” by Carolyn Brown, “Springfield 1880” by William W. Johnstone, “The Testaments” by Margaret Atwood, “Robert B. Parker’s the Bitterest Pill” by Reed Farrel Coleman, “The Stranger Inside” by Lisa Unger, “Old Bones” by Douglas Preston and “The Stalking” by Heather Graham. A new young adult title is “Ghost: Thirteen Haunting Tales to Tell” by Blaise Hemingway and others.

“Radicals, Resistance, and Revenge: the Left’s Plot to Remake America” by Judge Jeanine Pirro is among new non-fiction books along with “Colour-Pencil Drawings: Techniques and Tutorials for the Complete Beginner” by Kendra Ferreira and “Guinness World Records 2020.”

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior titles, “Big Nate: Great Minds Think Alike” by Lincoln Peirce, “Ariel: the Birthday Surprise” by Gail Herman, “A Small Zombie Problem” by K. G. Campbell, plus a new Disney Series “Princess Beginnings.” Several of the newer easy titles are “Snuggle Time, Fall Blessings” by Glenys Nellist, “Prince Bertram the Bad” by Arnold Lobel, “Owen at the Park” by Scot Ritchie and “A Tumbleweed Story” by Sandra Hussa.
