The library will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2019 in observance of Memorial Day. Regular hours resume on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

It’s time to register for summer reading! Stop in and sign your children up for the “Hey Kids – A Universe of Stories” program, this goal driven program continues throughout the summer and children are rewarded for meeting their library reading goals.

Each week, beginning May 28, the library will host LegoTime on Tuesdays at 1 p.m., Crafts and Activities on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. and Movies on Thursday at 1 p.m. Storyhour continues throughout the summer on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and several special programs are planned throughout the summer.

Monday, June 3 the film, “Neither Wolf Nor Dog” will be shown at the library at 6 p.m. books of the same title are available to pick up to read prior to the film and discussion. A light meal will be served, plan to attend! The film, adapted from the acclaimed novel by Kent Nerburn is a story that follows a white author who gets sucked into the heart of contemporary Native American life in the sparse lands of the Dakota’s by a 95 year old Lakota elder and his side-kick.

Wednesday, June 5 the puppet show, “The Dragon Who Fell to Earth” will be presented by Markie Scholz at 1 p.m. and in the evening, Paint @ the Library will be held at 5 p.m. Barb Orr has a special 4th of July painting planned! Call the library to secure your spot, available for all ages.

“Open Carry” is a new novel by Marc Cameron. U.S. Marshall Arliss Cutter is a born tracker. Raised in the Florida swamplands, he honed his skills in the military and worked three field positions for the Marshall Service. His newest assignment is taking him out of his comfort zone to southeast Alaska. First, there is the shocking murder of a Tlingit Indian girl and then three people disappear on Prince of Wales Island. His job is to solve the crimes but the whole town is hiding secrets, every trail is a dead end, and now he is the hunted. “Open Carry” is also available in Overdrive/Libby, RB Digital and the 3M Cloud library.

Other new fiction books are “Showdown Trail: a Western Trio” by Louis L’Amour, “Unforgettable You” by Brenda Novak, “A Tender Hope” by Amanda Cabot, “The First Lady” by James Patterson, “Unfortunate Ursula Underwood” by Susannah B. Lewis, “Hard Loving Cowboy” by A.J. Pine, “If These Walls Could Talk” by James D. Crownover, “The Huntress” by Kate Quinn and “The Forgiving Jar” by Wanda E. Brunstetter. New titles in the young adult section are “The Wicked King” by Holly Black and “The Lady is a Spy” by Don Mitchell.

“The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State” by Nadia Murad in among new non-fiction, along with “Wyoming in Mid-Century: Prejudice, Protest, and the Black 14” by Phil White Jr. and “Radical Kindness: the Life-Changing Power of Giving and Receiving” by Angela C. Santomero.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “It Wasn’t Me” by Dana Alison Levy, “The Big Game” by Tim Green, and “Pizza Party” by Karen English. A few of the newer picture books are “Circle” by Mac Barnett, “The Rough Patch” by Brian Lies and “Cure Complaining” by Kayla Pearson.

“World Otter Day!” is the theme for Storyhour on May 28, 2019. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year.
