The Friends of the Library will present the first of three RIF programs on Wednesday, January 9 at 6:30 p.m. The puppet show, “Rumple Snow Goose” will be featured and children will have the opportunity to make their own snow goose sock puppet. Snacks will be served and each child will be able to select their own book to keep. Plan now to attend this Reading Is Fun event!

“Draw @ the Library” continues on Thursdays January 10 through the 31 at noon. Join Barb Orr in learning and perfecting a variety of drawing techniques.

A book art class will be held on Wednesday, January 16th from 5-7 pm for adults and children over the age of 14. This craft utilizes old hardback books, and revitalizes them into coveted works of art for your home or for a gift for someone special. The creations will feature a heart pattern, just in time for Valentine's Day. The facilitator for the class will be Tamara Lehner, the Adult Programming Coordinator for the Converse County Libraries. Supplies will be provided; library programs are free and open to the public.

“Dead Sea Rising” is the newest novel by Jerry B. Jenkins. During her first dig in Jordon, Nicole Berman believes she has found concrete evidence of a biblical patriarch that could change history books forever, but someone doesn’t want the truth revealed. While she urgently tries to connect the pieces of an ancient puzzle, a dangerous enemy is out to stop her.

Other new titles are “Look Alive Twenty-Five” by Janet Evanovich, “Solace Island” by Meg Tilly, “Powder Burn” by William W. Johnstone, “Homeward Hound” by Rita Mae Brown, “Master of His Fate” by Barbara Taylor Bradford, “Target Alex Cross” by James Patterson, “Someone to Trust” by Mary Balogh, “Just Plain Murder” by Laura Bradford and “Long Road to Mercy” by David Baldacci. New titles for the young adult are “Bridge of Clay” by Markus Zusak and “Dear Evan Hansen” by Val Emmich.

Damien Echols newest book, “High Magick: a Guide to the Spiritual Practices That Saved My Life on Death Row” is now among new non-fiction books along with “The Allies: Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin, and the Unlikely Alliance That Won World War II” by Winston Groom and “The Library Book” by Susan Orlean.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “Big Foot and Little Foot” by Ellen Potter, “The Scary Library Shusher” by Andres Miedoso and “Wrath of the Dragon King” by Brandon Mull. A few of the newer easy titles include “There’s a Hole in the Log on the Bottom of the Lake” by Loren Long, “A Home in the Barn” by Margret Wise Brown, “Corduroy Takes a Bow” created by Don Freeman and “Where Do Jet Planes Sleep At Night?” by Brianna Caplan Sayres.

“Stay Warm!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday for children age 3 through kindergarten throughout the year. Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
