“The Reckoning” is John Grisham’s latest novel. Pete Banning was Clanton, Mississippi’s favorite son, a decorated World War II hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, father, neighbor, and faithful member of the Methodist Church. Then one cool morning in October 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church and calmly shot and killed the pastor and his friend, the Reverend Dexter Bell. As if the murder wasn’t shocking enough, it was even more baffling to the sheriff, his lawyers, the judge, the jury, and his family - that Pete’s only statement was “I have nothing to say.” This book is available in several formats.

Other new books are “Coming Home for Christmas” by Fern Michaels, “Rise of the Mystics” by Ted Dekker, “His Promise” by Shelley Shepard Gray, “An Absolutely Remarkable Thing” by Hank Green, “Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane” by JoAnn Ross, “Cowhand Justice” by Paul Evan Lehman, “Shell Game” by Sara Paretsky, “I Am Behind You” by John Ajvide Lindqvist and “Rocky Mountain Cowboy Christmas” by Katie Ruggle. Julie Kagawa’s newest young adult title, “Shadow of the Fox” is now available as is “Kingdom of the Ash” by Sarah J. Maas.

“Becoming” by Michelle Obama along with “Hunting Charles Manson: the Quest for Justice in the Days of Helter Skelter” by Lis Wiehl and “In the Hurricane’s Eye: the Genius of George Washington and the Victory at Yorktown” by Nathaniel Philbrick are available for non-fiction readers.

The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “Saving Winslow” by Sharon Creech, “Wedgie & Gizmo vs the Great Outdoors” by Suzanne Selfors and “The Princess in Black and the Science Fair Scare” by Shannon Hale. A few of the newer easy titles include “A Unicorn Named Sparkle’s First Christmas” by Amy Young, “Pete the Cat’s 12 Groovy Days of Christmas” by Kimberly Dean, “ Elbow Grease” by John Cena and “Duck & Hippo Give Thanks” by Jonathan London.
