The Dinner and Movie series continues the theme, “Happy Endings: Overcoming Crisis” with the film, “Groundhog Day” on Monday, January 29 at 6 p.m. “Groundhog Day” stars Bill Murray and is a comedy about a weatherman caught in a personal time warp where it is Groundhog Day again, and again, and again. The film is rated PG; a meal is provided and discussion is facilitated by Chadron State College professor, Deane Tucker. Library programs are free and open to the public.


Performer, Bunny Sings Wolf will present a concert at the library on Wednesday, February 7 at 6 p.m. Sings Wolf’s self-taught acoustic guitar and Native American flute accompanies a soulful voice sent with respect and conviction that honors Mitakuye Oyasin (Lakota – all our relations). You’ll want to attend this event.


“Enchantress of Numbers” is Jennifer Chiaverini’s latest novel. It illuminates the life of Ada Bryon King, Countess of Lovelace – Lord Bryon’s only legitimate child and the world’s first computer programmer. Those early punch cards were her idea. Ada’s mathematician mother, estranged from Bryon is determined to save her daughter from her perilous Bryon heritage. She provides Ada with a rigorous education grounded in mathematics and science. When Ada is introduced into London society she at last discovers the intellectual and social circle she longed for. Her exciting new friendship with Charles Babbage, inventor of an extraordinary machine – the Difference Engine – will define her future.


Other new fiction books are “The Revolution of Marina M” by Janet Fitch, “To Wager Her Heart” by Tamera Alexander, “Reservoir 13” by Jon McGregor, “Hardcore Twenty-Four” by Janet Evanovich, “All She Left Behind” by Jane Kirkpatrick, “Tom Clancy Power and Empire” by Marc Cameron, “Rule Breakers” by Mary Billiter, “Hope on the Plains” by Linda Byler and “The Vengeance of Mothers” by Jim Fergus. John Green’s newest YA title is “Turtles All the Way Down.”


“Andrew Jackson and the Miracle of New Orleans: the Battle that Shaped America’s Destiny” by Brian Kilmeade is among new non-fiction along with “American Wolf: a True Story of Survival and Obsession in the West” by Nate Blakeslee and “Healing Arthritis: the 3-Step Guide to Conquering Arthritis Naturally” by Susan Blum.


The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “Coyote Tales” by Thomas King, “Wedgie & Gizmo” by Suzanne Selfors and “Break an Egg!” Quvenzhane Wallis. Some of the newer easy titles are “Groundhug Day” by Anne Marie Pace, “Trouble on Tatooine” by Nate Millici, “Mission Paw” by Nate Lovett and “Those Darn Squirrels and the Cat Next Door” by Adam Rubin.


“Missing Mittens!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year. Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story. Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
