Have you registered your children for the upcoming afterschool programs? “Fairy Tales from Around the World” begins on Tuesday, January 9 for children in kindergarten through second grade and “Native American History” will be the theme on Thursday, January 11 for children in third through sixth grades. “Happy Endings: Overcoming Crisis” is the theme for the winter book discussion series; stop in to register and pick up the first book, “Under the Tuscan Sun” which will be discussed on Monday, February 5 at 6 p.m.


Start your new year off with a program by Cathy Hazel Adams, “Universal Energy and You: How to Start Creating Your Best Possible Life” on Wednesday, January 17 at 5:30 p.m. Library programs are free and open to the public.


Did you know that if our library doesn’t have the book or item you are looking for it can easily be borrowed from other libraries throughout the country? You can initiate your own interlibrary loans by going to Wyldcat: your library card number and PIN will give you access. You can also call or stop by the library and we’ll make the request for you. There are no charges for interlibrary loan outside of what a loaning library may charge. For more information call or stop in the library.


“The Midnight Line” is a new novel by Lee Child. In a small Wisconsin town, Jack Reacher sees a class ring in a pawn shop window: West Point 2005. The ring is tiny like a woman’s and it has her initials engraved on the inside. He wonders what made her give up something she had earned over four hard years. He decides to find the woman and return her ring. So begins a harrowing journey into dangerous terrain. Some lines should never be crossed – but then neither should Reacher.


Other new fiction books are “Cowboy, It’s Cold Outside” by Lori Wilde, “The Best of Adam Sharp” by Graeme Simsion, “Killing Season” by Faye Kellerman, “Origin” by Dan Brown, “Tormentor Mine” by Anna Zaires, “Odd is Left” by Michael Frederick, “Winter Solstice” by Elin Hilderbrand, “Reckoning at Lansing’s Ferry” by Lauren Paine and “Fairytale” by Danielle Steel. “Tool of War” by Paolo Bacigalupi is among new YA titles.


New non-fiction titles are “Unqualified: Love and Relationship Advice from a Celebrity Who Just Wants to Help” by Anna Faris, “Rainy Lake House: Twilight of Empire on the Northern Frontier” by Theodore Catton and “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Come and Get It: Simple Scrumptious Recipes For Crazy Busy Lives” by Ree Drummond.


The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books “The Player King” by Avi, “The Haunted Dinosaur” by Geronimo Stilton and “Attack of the Jack” by R.L. Stine. Some of the newer easy titles are “Fred and the Lumberjack” by Steven Weinberg, “Ghost in the Machine” by Brandon T. Snider and “Brown Rabbit’s Busy Day” by Alan Baker.


“Who Needs To Fly!” is the theme for Storyhour on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday for children age 3 through kindergarten. Dial-A-Story is available 24/7, call 334-3274 to hear a recorded story.
