Are you a western fiction reader? Be sure to stop by and check out the collection which grows each month. The western collection is housed on the upper floor of the library. Also, check out the digital library, TotalBoox and its western fiction collection!


If you are new to Niobrara County and haven’t yet gotten your library card, stop by with proof of address and we’ll set you up. We are part of a statewide system, so bring your card from out of county to be updated as well.


Are you looking for a good way to clean your mobile devices? The Friends of the Library are selling “MicroClean” for a fundraiser. This screen cleaner sticks to your cell phone or tablet body and can be used for thousands of uses. Simply wash it to clean and rejuvenate the stickiness of the gel. “MicroClean” can be purchased at the library for $3.00. The Friends of the Library also still have copies of their cookbook, filled with hundreds of tried and true recipes this book is available for $10 and would make a great graduation or wedding gift.


Faye Kellerman’s latest novel is “Bone Box.” On a bright and crisp September morning while walking a woodland trail Rina Lazarus stumbles upon human remains. Immediately she calls her husband, Peter Decker, who now works for the local Greenbury police. When more remains are found Decker and his partner know this isn’t just a single murder case and they race to protect their community from a psychopathic killer – on the hunt for a fresh victim.


Other new fiction books are “Death Stalks the Rangers: a Texas Ranger Sean Kennedy Story” by James J. Griffin, “Of Ashes and Dust” by Marc Graham, “Gunmental Gray” by Mark Greaney, “The Seekers” by Wanda E. Brunstetter, “Showdown” by Louis L’Amour, “The Cutthroat” by Clive Cussler, “To Hell on a Fast Horse” by Peter Brandvold and “An Uncommon Protector" by Shelley Shepard Gray. A new title in the YA section is “Lifeblood” by Gena Showalter.


“Walking to Listen: 4,000 Miles Across America, One Story at a Time” by Andrew Forsthoefel is among new non-fiction along with “Hidden Figures: the American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race” by Margot Lee Shetterly and “Dodge City: Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, and the Wickedest Town in the West” by Tom Clavin.


The Lennea Lewis Slagle Children's Library has these new junior books, “Long Live the Queen” by Gerry Swallow, “Trouble Next Door” by Karen English and “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” by Kelly Barnhill. Some of the newer easy titles include “Alex’s Ten-Dollar Adventure” by Wendy Bailey, “Strictly No Elephants” by Lisa Mantchev and “Leave Me Alone” by Vera Brosgol.


“Happy Mother’s Day!” is the theme for Storyhour on May 9, 2017. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year! Call 334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story. The Friends of the Library sponsor Dial-A-Story.
