Mrs. Massie Dies Monday; Funeral Today
Mrs. Robert L. Massie, 78, died Monday morning at 7:00 a.m. in Niobrara Memorial Hospital of a heart condition.
Funeral services will be at the Peet Chapel with the Rev. Theodore Foster of St. George's Episcopal Church officiating, this Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Walter Fernau, Mrs. Robert Bramlet, Dr. R.W. Collins and Harry Lyon will sing accompanied by Mrs. J.P. Watson.
Pallbearers will be; John Goddard, Lou Bass, Bill Magoon, Jack Magoon, Harry Fernau Sr. and Don Taylor.
Emily Marie Sullivan was born October 19, 1885 in Liverpool, England the daughter of Charles W. Sullivan and Catherine Condon. In 1910 she was married to John Henry Deetjen in Liverpool. They came to the United States in 1911 and homesteaded north of Lusk, between the Magoon and Petz ranches. They were the parents of eight children, four preceded her in death.
Mrs. Massie returned to her home land twice in the early 1950's. On June 4, 1953 she and R. L. Massie of Lusk were married in Salem, Ore.
She has been very active in church work, first with the Congregational Church and after her marriage to Mr. Massie with the Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. R. G., Dotson of Midwest, Mrs. O. E. Holcomb of Salem, Ore. and Mrs. E. E. Kleiber of Upton; one son, George Deetjen of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Bert Newham of Sheridan and Minnie Bristow of Liverpool, England; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and a host of friends acquired during her 53 years residence in this community.
