Hattie B. Stallman

Memorial services for Hattie B. Stallman, 92, were held Tuesday, Apr. 15 at Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk.

She died Friday, Apr. 11 at the Niobrara Memorial Nursing Home where she had been a resident since 1978. Rev. Mark Lohr officiated at the service with burial following in the Lusk Cemetery.

Hattie Bridge Stallman was born Dec. 11, 1893 at St. Libory, NE, the daughter of Frank and Anna Bridge. She filed for her own homestead near Manville in December 1913 and spent the next few months cooking for sheep shearing crews and sleeping on the ground in a tepee.

In April 1914, she moved on her homestead when her house was built. Truly a pioneer woman, she recalled getting her water from a nearby creek in barrels.

She married Barney Stallman on Sept. 14, 1918. He preceded her in death in 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, one sister and a son, Clyde.

Survivors include four sons, Jim, Willis and John, all of Lusk, and Dale of Sheridan; one daughter, Mrs. Dale Anderson of Riverton; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorials to the family would be appreciated.
