Jeanette Ord Sager
Funeral services for Jeanette Ord Sager, 93, were held Aug. 10, 2002, at the Congregational Church, with Rev. Robert Todd officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.
Jeanette Sager died Aug. 4, 2002, at her home in Lusk.
She was born in her parents' home in Lusk, Aug. 22, 1908, the third of four children of Robert Charles Ord and Mayme Agnew Ord. Her early childhood was spent on the Ord ranch on Rawhide Creek and in the family home in Lusk during the school year.
She attended schools in Lusk and Omaha, Neb., and graduated from Lusk High School in the class of 1925. She graduated Cum Laude from the Nebraska State Normal School at Chadron, with an associate degree in 1927. After teaching one year in the Torrington, Wyo., schools, she went on to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She returned to the ranch in 1929 and married Harry E. Sager that year. They left the ranch in 1935, and her marriage ended in separation and divorce. Their son, Harry Charles Sager, remained with her in Lusk.
She taught school at Node for a year and worked for a time in the abstract office in the Niobrara County courthouse. When her sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Roy Chamberlain, bought the Ranger Hotel in Lusk in 1936, she went to work with them in the hotel until it was sold in 1958. She continued to live in Lusk until her death.
She was active in many organizations and activities in Lusk. She served as Guardian of Job's Daughters, Worth Matron of Eastern Star, and President of the Lusk Republican Women's Club. She was President of Chapter I of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Wyoming State Chapter of P.E.O. as well.
She was life-long member and devoted supporter of the Lusk Congregational Church. She served two terms as Moderator of the Lusk church and served ten years on the Wyoming State Board of Church Women United.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harry Charles Sager and Anne Hill Sager; her granddaughter Elizabeth Sager Yates; her grandson John Ord Sager; her great-grandson Eric John Yates, all of Houston, Texas; her nephews, George Darrow of Bigfork, Mont., and Robert Ord Darrow of Lakewood, Colo.; and many grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marjorie Ord Darrow Kaan and Gertrude Ord Chamberlain; and her brother, John Robert Ord.
