Marvin Dale Rising
Funeral services for Marvin Dale Rising were held Aug. 11, 2003, at the Crawford Community Building with Rev. Mincks officiating.
Marvin rising died Aug. 7, 2003 at the Chadron Community Hospital.
Marvin was born Jan. 5, 1918, to Earl and Ercil Rising, east of Marsland, Neb.
He married Ruth Lee, March 24, 1941. They had three children, Glee Zimmer of Morrill, Neb., Gwen Ruben of Crawford and Dale Rising Lusk, and a stepson, Gary Mitchell of Belmont, Neb.
On May 15, 1953, Marvin married Ruby Lucas in Gering, Neb. She brought two daughters, Sharon Ritterbush of Hot Springs, S.D. and Diana Hageman of Chadron.
Marvin and Ruby had three more children, Lurry (Skeet) Rising of Crawford, Kathy Smith of Ellsworth, Kan., and Vicki Gilliam of Crawford.
The couple made their home in Crawford for the last 50 years.
Marvin joined the Army Oct. 27, 1942, and served at Fort Robinson, where he broke horses and pack mules. He started trucking in 1948, and trucked in the Crawford area for 36 years. He owned Marv's Bar for 20 years, until his retirement.
Rodeo was a big part of Marvin's life; he rodeoed, and worked as a rodeo judge and pick-up man.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; two sons, Dale and Skeet; five daughters, Glee, Gwen, Sharon, Diana, Kathy, Vicki and stepson, Gary; one sister, Doris Humaker, one brother, Wilbur Rising; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eva Rising; one granddaughter, AnDee Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Neidert and Braxton Dale Rising.
