Clara M. Parmely
Services for Clara M. Parmely, 91, were held Thursday, December 31, 1987 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lusk. Reverend Jess Reeves officiated. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
Mrs. Parmely died December 27, 1987 at the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home where she had resided for the past year and a half.
She was born December 26, 1896 in Nebraska, the oldest daughter of Frank and Josie Matejka. The family moved from Nebraska to Huron, S. D. where Clara received her education.
In the early 1920's Clara married Alexander Sloggett of Huron, SD. They moved from South Dakota to California where her husband was employed by the railroad and Clara maintained their home until her husband's death in 1946. Clara moved to Wyoming and married Edwin S. Parmely. Her husband preceded her in death in December of 1957. When Clara first moved to Wyoming, she was employed by Clem and Alice Burge in the cleaning shop now occupied by Lorenzen Insurance. Later she was employed by the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1967. Clara first worked as a nurse's aide and concluded her employment at the hospital as a cook.
Clara was an avid bowler and won many trophies. Her failing health and eyesight caused her to give up bowling just a couple years prior to her death. In addition to bowling, Clara also did cooking for different people within the community, particularly during the holidays and on special occasions.
She was active in St. George's Episcopal Church, St. George's Guild, a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, and a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 4.
Survivors are two sisters, Jo Alice Matejka of De Pere, WI and Mrs. L. W. "Sammie" Christensen of Conover, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mildred Matejka of Green Bay, WI.
Memorials to St. George's Episcopal Church, Niobrara County Senior Center, or the Niobrara County Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home would be appreciated.
Peet Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
