Mrs. Bennie Baker Dies in Casper Funeral Service This Thursday
Mrs. Bennie (May Wilson) Baker, life time resident of Wyoming, died late Sunday afternoon following a lengthy illness at the hospital in Casper. She had resided at the Bel Aire Manor in Casper for three years and had been in and out of the hospital since March of this year.
Funeral service will be held at the Peet Mortuary in Lusk at 10:00a.m. this Thurs. with burial at the cemetery in Manville.
May Wilson was born on Dec. 3, 1891, at Manville. At the time of her marriage to Bennie Baker, there was a three day celebration going on July 3, 4 and 5 in Manville and the couple hopped a freight from Manville to Harrison where they were married on July 5, 1910, and then caught the next freight home. She had always laughed about this saying that youngsters now days weren't the only ones that did crazy things.
The couple homesteaded about 3 miles south of Lance Creek, and their cabin is still standing on the Donald Johnson ranch. They were the parents of four children, three daughters and a son James who died years ago. Mr. Baker was a government trapper most of his life, but the family lived around and in Lance Creek most of their married life except for several years in Baggs. Mrs. Baker was a member of the Lance Creek Community Church, Royal Neighbors Club, the Gumbo Hustlers Extension Club, and she became a member of the Mariposa Chapter, OES in Manville in 1917.
She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Billie) Nelson of Lance Creek, Mrs. Buck (Fern) Alameda of Rawlins and Mrs. Burt (Verna) Baker of Stockton, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
